Innovative solutions in line with new Public Procurement rules

DSC 0922On the 18th of June, DURABROADS was presented to a policy-oriented audience during the ERF Biennial Symposium on Future Road Infrastructure Challenges.

The event brought around 100 experts mainly EU stakeholders representing different industries from the transport sector in Brussels. Amongst participants, some representatives from the European Commission involved in R&D policy framework attended the event.

DURABROADS was part of the Innovation Session being presented as practical example of EU co-funding to create a more resilient and sustainable road infrastructure through innovation. The project will also lease with the new Public Procurement Directives to be implemented by 2016 in all member states.

Concretely, the consortium will develop new Life Cycle Costing (LCC) and Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) for the new materials and techniques to facilitate its market implementation but also providing benefits to public administrations when purchasing those innovative tenders. Modernising public purchasing would be the perfect approach to promote quality and innovation, and hence, to position the European know-how in the global scale being able to compete with emerging economies and hence taping into new markets.
